Comments:It is good to have love to our own language, culture and tradition and also i appreciate for the effort. I read through some and i checked the comments. There are so many ways to have arguments in any matter but there must be a historical fact. I am not going to stress back to the history rather like unity. One thing most of the time i think for the development of Manipuries is the language. we call each other Manipuri but i find so reluctant to speak in different dialogue to each other means Meiteis and Bishnupryas therefore, why not we try to speak a common language to communicate each other, let us think for it and what could be the language of both Meiteis and Bishnupryas. Thank you

You are mentally sick frustrated snob spamming this page.Your government is begging to Delhi when you pathetic bastards spending all the money surfing the net and posting senseless comments here and there. You cannot live peacefully with any community whatever be it Bishnupriya, Naga, Kuki, Tangkhul, Bengali, Assamese, Panjabi... you have problems with everyone, even with your closest neighbors...then with whom do you think you are going to live in peace? Give up your tribal mentality of fighting with everyone and come forward out of the jungle. Comments:Hello Bishnupriya Manipuri your theory of your origin proves that you are bastards. How can you claim that you are aryan race? Generally Aryan are tall, white, fair complesions. But you are dark ugly with dirty and dishonest mindset borrowed from your Neighbor Bangali. You can be true to yourself and will be respected by everybody. Don't try to distort history of Kangleipak/Manipur. During king Khagemba of Manipur, Khagemba's brother Sanongba went to Cachar took help from chachari meiyang and invaded Manipur to claim the throne of Manipur but king Khagemba defeated the invading army of Sanongba and the war rfugee were made to settle in Ningthoukhong area of Manipur. That was the first time the Bishnupriya people came to Manipur. Manipuri king treated these people dearly but in return they are trying to malign us. That is the true spirit of being Bangali. You get lost bastards.

2.Do you know about the prevedic Aryan?
3.Do you know when Mongoloid people came in India.
4.Do you know the anthropology of the inhabitance(past & present) of Manipur?
5.Do you know the very term Mekhali or kassey or kathey and its back ground?
6.Are you sure the Mahabharata and Ramayana never happened (i.e. occurred)?
7.How much you know about the archeology and geology ?

I think you don't know the actual things or never try to understand the actual history of Manipur. If you are cordially and impartially interested to know the same facts, I can help you. Thanks

Comments:I am a Meitei and I have been watching this Bishnupriya movement for a long time.Frankly speaking nobody in Manipur cares about it because it does not make sense to us but it affects the Manipuris living outside Manipur as it involves overlapping of interests.I want to give a friendly advice to our Bisnipriya friends that dont try to distort history. You are right you once settled in Manipur, you are Manipuris and you are welcome to Manipur. But please dont try to distort our history.Cut this bullshit about you ruling Manipur first and then Meiteis driving you out.We and the world are not confuse of our history. We have written history which can be comparatively examined with the history of South East Asia. Please study a little bit.For your information Meiteis is not a single tribe it was formed by assimilating more than nine tribes and many groups from India,Burma,China etc.The process of this assimilation was started by Nongda Lairen Pakhangba who became the king of the whole of Manipur in 33 A.D.Before him there were many kings but they were Mangang,Khuman,Khaba tribal kings who were at some points became powerful enough to control other tribes. So please dont try to manufacture something whch was not there.
Some of us are glad that you are claiming to be Manipuris as our Manipuri family is getting bigger but dont make youself a laughing stock.Know yourself, know your father/mother and know your brothers and you will get your place in Manipur but dont try to distort history .You will never win.

Comments:Dear kanano, your view on Bishnupriya Manipuri Language so baseless that any person having the preliminary knowledge of history and development of indian languages will turn it down as nonsense and stupid at the very outset. However, we may throw out your views with the followings -

1st, Your "17th century" theory is completely nonsense because historical works by both Indian and Europian scholars bear irrefutable testimonies to the existance of BPM or Mayang before 13th century. Even the meitei royel chronicle "Cheitharol Khumbaba" contains Mayang/Mayang Yumpham/Mayang Yumphal during 7th century. it seems that the Kamrupi people who entered Manipur in the company of Mayang Laima Chingurembi married to king Naothing Khong of Manipur (663 A.D.).

2nd, the BPM speakers left manipur during the last part of 18th century with their fully developed form. How many years did a language take its shape and develop to a language of higher excellence ? The history of development of modern indian languages states that it takes a minimum of 5 centuries. 18-5=13. This is mathematics !

3rd, BPM is originated from Sauraseni Prakrits, where bangali or assamese originated from Magadhi-prakrits. so it is grounless to say that BPM is "mainly derived from Bengali and retains pre-Bengali features". Can you provide some examples or clues on your view that BPM reatins pre-bengali features ?

4th, this is a total garbage that bengalis and assamese people can cover 80% and 90% of BPM. Ask a Bengali or Assamese on your % view and I am 100% sure that you'll definitly got the right answer. goto
http://manipuri.htmlplanet.com/boron_ela.html
and if a Benagali or Assamese can understand a 10% of it, you will be the winner !

5th, I think you are confused with some OIA words in the language tutorial. Indo-Aryan languages like Hindi, Assamse, Oriya, Bangali contains about 10,000 tathsama and semi-tatsama (original Indo-aryan) and about 8,000 common words that are called Tathbhaba words, that are derived from OIA. This is a nature of all indo-Aryan languagea and you should not be confused with that. For example -

the pronominals I,We becomes
Mi, Amhi in Marathi
Mi, H'um in Brajabuli
Mi, Ami in BM
Mei, Hum in Hindi
mai, A'mi in Assamese
A'mi, A'mara in Bengali

The numbers 1,2,3,4 etc. becomes ek, du/dui,tin, char/chair in hindi, BM, Assamse, Oriya and other indo-aryan languages.

so now, can you say that if you know hindi than you know 80% bengali or if you know bengali you can cover 90% assamese ?

6th, here is another one

Hindi: Mai ja'ta'hu ( I am going )
BPM: Mi Jauriga

Hindi:Mai kha'ta'hu ( I am eating)
BPM: Mi khauriga

Hindi:Nika'lna ( to find out)
BPM: Nika'la'ni

Hindi:Ka'uli ( quarrel)
BPM: Kauli

Hindi:Ka'ka'li ( waist)
BPM: Ka'ka'li

Hindi:Pina' (to drink)
BPM: Pina'

Hindi:Janga (Thigh)
BPM: Jang

Now, according to your theory, it is quite reasonable to say that BPM is originated from Hindi and reatins pre-hindi features !

What do you think ?

Comments:thapar, bishnupriya is not an evil movement - it is just a group of people trying to find their roots and geting mislead on the way.

The Bishnupriyas are a people of Aryan race, originally from the Indian sub-contintent, who had at some point in their history stayed in Manipur and imbibed the local culture and traditions, after hinduism was introduced into Manipur sometime around the 17th century. Their language is related to Bengali and Assamese, mainly derived from Bengali and retains pre-Bengali features. If one knows Bengali, one knows aproximately 80% of the Bishnupriya language, and if you know Assamese as well, then you cover almost 90% of the language. Manipuri language make up about the remaining part, roughly.
Go through the language tutorial in this site and you will see for yourself.
Because their direct ancesters lived in Manipur rather than then in other parts of the sub-continent, they consider themselves as Manipuries or people from Manipur, exiled to their present locations spread out all over India and surrounding areas.
Because of conflict with the present popupation of Manipur, mainly Meities, many of whom do not recognises their language and culture as belonging to Manipur, they have started a movement to discover their identity.
But instead of doing that, some of the people, stung by the rejection by the Manipuri people, have set about creating an Identity rather than discovering their true identity.

They now try to portray that they are the true Manipuries and that they are decendents from the Mahabharatha legend and that the present Manipuries - meities and nagas and mizos, came and drove them out of Manipur. It is because of these people's actions and activities that you find the people of Manipur saying that the Bishnupriyas movement is evil.
But not all people can be mislead, the Bishnupriyas will find their true roots and history - as they say, you can fool some people all the time, or all people for some time, but not all the people all the time.

I contacted the National Archives and the library in LOndon and I found that the Manipuris preserve written documents since 33 AD historically. ARchaeological evidences prove their existence. The Meiteis had relation with all other ethnic groups in the region. The Nagas, Kukis, Assamese, Tripuris, Mizos, paite and all other tribes know about Manipur and their relations are well established. What is the point in starting a useless evil movement. Do something constructive.

Couldn't have been more surprised to come across this site on our people and language. Frankly though, this site still needs more content but I have to admit that the site is pioneering and also so appreciate the effort put into it.

I'm real proud of the effort.

And yes, I would be glad to help in anyway I can. I work as Manager (Exports) with an International Trading Firm in Gujarat and stay there, but my family is still in Silchar (Assam) and I have a lot of relatives in Bangladesh (as almost all of us).

I would be proud to associate myself with this movement for our people and help in anyway I can.

And by the way - Good Work - Ashim !!! Hope to meet you some day. Would really like that.
